Dress Code and Spirit Wear

HB du Pont Middle School is committed to maintaining a safe, respectful, and focused learning environment. Students are expected to dress in a manner that supports learning and school safety. The dress code applies during the school day and at all school-sponsored activities. Building administration will make the final determination regarding appropriate attire. Students who do not meet dress code expectations will be given an opportunity to correct the issue with minimal loss of instructional time.

Students May Wear

• HB du Pont spirit wear, team, club, and activity shirts.

• Solid-color polo shirts with no logos.

• HB du Pont non-hooded sweatshirts, fleece, jackets, or solid-color sweaters, sweatshirts, and cardigans over an approved polo or HB shirt.

• HB logo sweatpants or shorts.

• Uniform-style or corduroy pants in black, navy, brown, or tan. No denim, skinny pants, or clothing with rips or tears.

• Uniform-style shorts of appropriate length in black, navy, brown, or tan.

• Dresses and skirts (black, navy, brown, or tan) no more than 3 inches above the knee. Slits may not extend above the knee.

• On PE days, students may wear dress code-approved athletic clothing with sneakers.

Students May Not Wear

• Hooded sweatshirts.

• Jeans or leggings.

• Clothing with rips, tears, inappropriate writing, images, or logos.

• Clothing that is excessively tight, short, or revealing.

• Open-back shoes, including but not limited to: Crocs, flip-flops, or slippers.

• Hats, hoods, head coverings, or ear coverings inside the building unless approved for religious or medical reasons.

• Sagging pants that expose undergarments or skin.

• Large or unsafe accessories that may create a safety concern.

Additional Expectations

• Clothing must be solid in color, clean, and in good condition.

• Shirts worn under sweatshirts must be an approved HB shirt or solid-color polo.

• Additional solid-color layers (such as turtlenecks or thermal shirts) may be worn underneath.

• Team uniforms may be worn on game days. 

• Footwear must be closed-back and appropriate for school activities.

• Clothing or accessories that promote violence, illegal substances, profanity, discrimination, or other inappropriate content are prohibited.

Any attire not specifically addressed in this policy is subject to the discretion of the building administration.
